In previous articles we reviewed the first three of four life-changing routines, a daily physical fitness routine, a mental wellness routine, and a spiritual routine. This the final article in this series. Here we'll review the benefits and elements of a healthy dietary routine.

Cook More at Home

Eat out less. Studies indicate that most meals consumed at restaurants are of poor dietary quality, especially when compared to home-cooked meals.

I love to cook. Many people don't. It takes time and practice to get good at it. I submit that it's not difficult and that it's worth the time to learn.  Everyone should learn how to cook at least 5 healthy meals. if for no other reason but to have an alternative to eating out, to have healthier options.

Cut Out Processed Foods

Any food item that is altered from it’s natural state is “processed”. The less processed the better. Heavily processed foods have associated health risks including obesity, chronic diseases, mental health issues, and nutritional deficiencies.

Be sure to include whole grains; fresh, organic fruits and vegetables; and meats from local farms that respect the life of the animal, that don’t feed them chemical-laced foods, and that don’t pump the animals full of hormones and antibiotics.

Reduce carbs and avoid added sugars.

The bottom line about diets: eat cleaner.

There's lots of information out there, just be careful that the information you are getting about your diet is from well researched and respected places. This article from Healthline is decent start.

Conclusion

There you go. That’s enough for now. These four life-changing routines will absolutely help you forge a healthier and happier path forward. Think on it. Act on it. You won’t regret it – I promise.

I’m David on Earth. On this website I do my best to encourage everyone to "live like you want it". And part of doing that is practicing beneficial, healthy routines.

Maybe I’ll see you on the trail.
